The Minnesota Veterans Home-Bemidji is seeking a Resident Assistant to help support the residents' needs by assisting with limited personal care and providing companionship, food service, snack preparation, and activity support!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist residents in social activities and with their personal interests. Help create opportunities for social interactions, personal routines, and exercise within the resident community.

  • Serve food in a clean, cheerful environment to help build connections and a sense of community.

  • Develop household customs and rituals by facilitating household-related activities.

This position is designated as part-time and primarily evening shift. The work schedule will include at least 32 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. This position is not initially eligible for health care benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to serve food in accordance with all pertinent safety and health regulations, guidelines and standards.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and engage with residents in group and one-on-one activities.

  • Knowledge of the aging process and related conditions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, read and follow instructions, and keep simple records.

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.

  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
