We are seeking a highly strategic, commercially minded leader to identify, evaluate, and activate investment and partnership opportunities that advance IU Health's clinical, operational, and long-term positioning. This role sits at the intersection of healthcare delivery, external innovation, and capital deployment , translating emerging opportunities into practical, system-level impact.

This is a high-visibility, system-level role that partners closely with clinical, operational, and executive leadership to ensure investment decisions align with IU Health's strategic priorities and deliver measurable outcomes.

Location : Indianapolis, IN

The Scope:

This role supports IU Health's strategic investment and enterprise innovation efforts, including:

  • Evaluating venture capital opportunities, partnerships, and external technologies for system-level impact

  • Translating emerging innovations into actionable pilots, partnerships, or scalable initiatives

  • Interfacing with internal executives, clinical leaders, early-stage founders, and investment firms

  • Conducting disciplined investment analysis, deal structuring, and strategic prioritization

  • Aligning opportunities with clinical workflows, operational needs, and system-level priorities

  • Managing a portfolio of opportunities and determining where IU Health should engage or decline

The Principal, Strategic Investments, acts as a key strategic partner, helping IU Health focus on high-value opportunities with a clear and actionable path to impact. This role combines investment rigor with healthcare system execution, working closely with clinical, operational, and executive leaders to translate complex ideas into measurable outcomes, successful pilots, and scalable solutions that improve patient outcomes and system performance.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's Degree is preferred.

  • Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.

  • Requires experience in investment, corporate development, strategy, innovation, or operating roles within healthcare or adjacent sectors.

  • Requires demonstrated experience evaluating complex opportunities, including investment, partnership, or strategic initiatives, with the ability to form clear recommendations under uncertainty.

  • Requires a strong understanding of healthcare delivery systems, including clinical, operational, and financial dynamics, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly develop domain expertise.

  • Must be a visionary leader who knows how to effectively drive change in a complex environment.

  • Requires strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across executive, clinical, and operational leadership.

  • Requires demonstrated ability to prioritize across competing opportunities with disciplined decision - making and resource allocation.

  • Requires the ability to operate with a high degree of independence, judgment, and accountability.

  • Experience structuring and assessing equity investments, co - investments, or strategic partnerships is preferred.

  • CFA, CAIA, or equivalent experience is a plus but not required.
